Social Media vs The World
The New Year is upon us and by now you’ve probably signed up to multiple social media platforms, using them on a day-to-day basis. Let’s be honest, who isn’t? Truthfully we’re all in the same boat and that is precisely why social media is taking over the world!
As of January 2016, the world population currently stands at around 7,400,000,000. More than 90% enjoy access to the Internet. This has led to the creation of more than 3,800,000,000 social media accounts!
So, what would it look like if we took the monthly active users from the most popular social media platforms and compared them to the population of specific countries? Let’s take a look!
Pinterest vs The UK
Pinterest is predicted to be one of the most successful social media channels of 2016, due to its rapid growth during 2015. Pinterest is now home to more than 100,000,000 monthly active users, whilst the United Kingdom is populated by just 63,000,000 people. As a result, the social media channel is 58.7% bigger than the United Kingdom.
Twitter vs Japan
It should come as no surprise to hear that Twitter is one of the leading social platforms. In fact, you’re probably signed up to Twitter yourself… so, how does Twitter compare to the population of Japan? Let’s see how much these results surprise you. Twitter is populated by more than 316,000,000 monthly active users. That’s more than double the size of the Japanese population of 126,000,000!
Instagram vs Brazil
Since Facebook took over Instagram, the platform has excelled. Instagram is now attracting more than 400,000,000 monthly active users. Coincidence…? I think not! Instagram is a great way to show off your photography skills, whilst promoting yourself or your business in a positive light. We decided to compare Instagram’s audience with Brazil’s population. Really, there’s no comparison! Brazil is populated by approximately 203,000,000 people – almost half the amount of active Instagram users.
WhatsApp vs The USA
WhatsApp is widely used across the globe for its free, fast and efficient messaging service. Over the 7 years WhatsApp has been around, it has accumulated more than 900,000,000 monthly users. This is around 2.76x the size of the United States’ current population (325,000,000).
Facebook vs China
Everyone knows Facebook is the biggest social media platform in the world. What country to better compare this social media phenomenon with than the most highly populated country, China? Which do you think comes out on top? Is Facebook bigger than China or vice versa? For those of you who guessed Facebook, you’re correct! Facebook is rapidly growing day by day, minute by minute. Currently, Facebook has more than 1.55 BILLION monthly active users. Despite China’s population coming in close with 1.4 BILLION, Facebook still has a 10.7% larger audience.
