There’s a famous saying, “social media should benefit your life, not become your life”. Regardless of this phrase, social media is certainly becoming our life. So, whose life really benefits from social media? The people behind the postings, the creators, the founders, the people with the ideas? Who are these people with the ideas? Where do they come from? Where are they now? Let’s take a look!

  • The name ‘Gree’ came from a theory by social psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1967, called Six Degrees of Separation. He believed everyone on the earth was only six steps away from any other person, hence in terms of “a friend of a friend” connections, any two people in the world could be connected in six steps or fewer.
  • Yoshikazu started developing the Gree site in 2003 when he was 26, as a hobby. He opened it to the public in February 2004 and by March, more than 10,000 users had already joined.

  • In his earlier years, Jack dropped out of a New York University and in 1999 he became a certified masseur! It wasn’t until 2006 that he partnered with Ev Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass to create Twitter! By the year 2008, he shifted to the company chairman’s seat!

Jan always had a knack with computers and in 1998 he joined the ‘Yahoo’ team. His role within the company was as a security and infrastructure engineer. After nine years working with fellow billionaire David Filo, he left the company.
  • In 2009, Jan launched WhatsApp! It’s now the largest mobile messaging service that the world has ever seen – it’s filled with more than 800 million users! Shortly after, Facebook bought WhatsApp.

  • Despite claims that Google+ will never make it to the capacity of Facebook, Larry is said to be worth $44.7 billion, so it’s highly doubtful that the demise of Google+ is something that will bother him.
  • Larry is now 44 years old, happily married with a child and living in the United States. As is Reid Hoffman, he is a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science!

1) Mark Zuckerberg, of Facebook – $71.5 billion.

D.O.B: May 14, 1984
Nationality: American
Source of Wealth: Facebook
Marital Status: Married
Residence: Palo Alto, CA

  • My bet is you’re somebody that uses Facebook on a daily basis – along with the other 1.49 billion monthly active users. Without the creativity and imagination of Mark Zuckerberg, you’d probably still be posting blogs on Bebo!
  • Mark is 33 years of age. He created the world’s largest social networking site in 2004, when he was just 20 years old! What were you doing when you were 20? Like most people, you probably weren’t well on the way to becoming a billionaire.
  • Facebook is constantly growing day by day and minute by minute and Mark’s income is doing the same thing. Mark Zuckerberg is ranked as the 8th richest person in the world to date, so it should come as no surprise that he’s ranked as THE richest social media entrepreneur!
  • Mark is still a very young man, so it’s quite within the realms of possibility that he will soon overtake Bill Gates and become the richest man on the face of the earth!
  • You’re probably wondering how he got to where he is? Nobody can answer that. Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of university and education as a whole. It seems his intelligence was widely produced on his passion for technology. Mark claims he never imagined he’d be where he is today when he dropped out of education!
